Over the two days, supply chain and logistics professionals came together to explore topics around the Supply Chain such as the new trends and strategies, the impact of new technologies and the digital transformation...

With the theme “Driving the changes to the next generation supply chain and logistics at the digital era and radical changing business world”, the Supply Chain Innovation Summit (SCAP) Asia Pacific 2017 was filled with a series of keynote speeches and panel discussions by top level supply chain and logistics professionals.

VISEO Asia was pleased to be part of this inaugural event to learn about new happenings in the industry and share our expertise with fellow supply chain professionals.

Some key learnings from the conferences were:

Tailored Sustainable and Connected Supply Chain 4.0

Schneider Electric’s own integrated business management process: Sales Inventory Operation Planning (SIOP), that is slightly different from the traditional Sales and Operation Planning (S&OP). They place a lot of importance on inventory and started on their supply chain footprint many years ago. More than half of their employees are engaged in the supply chain process. Progress were made on planning maturity, footprint transformation, network optimisation, and accelerating the next wave of customer process capabilities to improve the delivery experience for customers.

E-commerce Technology Transforming Global Supply Chains

The speaker from JD.com introduced how technology transformed the e-commerce supply chain. She raised an example of the Single’s day which contributed 127.1 billion RMB of gross sales. With the help of high-tech warehouse solution and AI algorithms, they were able to send out 85% of their order on the first day, and the fastest door to door delivery was 7 minutes.

Robotics and Automation in Supply Chain and Logistics

As mentioned by the presenter from ABB, 66% of warehouse costs are spent on picking and inbounding activities. This meant that there is a huge potential in reducing costs by adapting robotics in the supply chain. The full cost of a logistics robot will be reduced to 100,000 euros in less than two years, and this can help companies to achieve 20 to 40% in cost savings.

The Next Generation Supply Chain

The idea of new technologies driving changes in the next generation supply chain was emphasised throughout the various speeches and discussions. One significant point raised was for companies to be prepared for this change. More importantly, the mind sets of the management must be aligned to ensure that the change follows through. Another point raised during the discussions was that competitors are more likely to be become collaborators as sharing data means reducing cost.
